A large body of cross-cultural research supports the notion that when it comes to cheating, men consider sexual transgressions more serious, while women consider emotional ones the greater offense. The evolutionary perspective offers a basis for this gender difference: men are more concerned about passing on their genetics while women are more worried about having the resources to raise a child to maturity. Whatever the reasons behind this disparity, both are breaches of trust and respect, and neither needs to be tolerated.
